Emotionally Focused Therapy

for Couples

Couples can heal….

Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)

Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) is a short-term, structured approach (typically 8 to 20 sessions) originally developed in the 1980s for couples therapy. Rooted in attachment science, EFT integrates:

  • A humanistic, experiential approach to restructuring emotional experiences

  • A systemic, structural approach to reshaping interactions

A substantial body of research supports the effectiveness of EFT, showing large treatment effects and long-lasting results. Studies have demonstrated EFT’s success in helping couples struggling with:

  • Depression

  • Anxiety resulting from trauma

  • Medical illness-related stress

  • Forgiveness dilemmas

Goals of Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)

  • Expand and re-organize emotional responses, helping individuals and couples reshape their emotional experiences and interactions.

  • Create positive shifts in communication patterns, fostering healthier and more constructive ways of relating to one another.

  • Strengthen emotional bonds, promoting deeper connection, trust, and security in relationships.
